What the AI agent can do

The 20 tools a connected MCP agent can call on your AskAiRank account: what it can read, what it can change, what it is never allowed to touch, and the limits that apply.

Updated:

Once an AI app is connected over MCP (see Connecting AskAiRank), it can call 20 tools against your account. Every one of them checks access for your signed-in account itself, every single time. Nothing is assumed from the AI app’s side, and connecting an app does not hand it a standing key it can use unsupervised later.

What it can read

  • Your account email, plan and trial status.
  • Your tracked brands, their domain and when each was last checked.
  • Visibility: the share of AI answers that mention a brand, per engine, with a daily trend.
  • Recent mentions: the question asked, the engine, the position, a quote, and the sources cited.
  • Competitors: which brands the engines name alongside or instead of yours, and a head-to-head comparison against any one of them.
  • Your tracked prompts, and which ones are paused.
  • The domains AI engines cite most often in your market.
  • A brand’s alert settings: notification email, Telegram chat id, and the severity that triggers a message.

What it can change

  • Add a prompt. Goes live in the next daily poll, the same as adding one in the app.
  • Edit a prompt’s wording or category, without changing whether it is tracked.
  • Pause or resume a prompt. Pausing keeps its history; it stops counting against your plan’s prompt limit while paused.
  • Remove a prompt. The agent has to say confirm: true first. The history it already produced stays.
  • Run a visibility check on one prompt right now, the same as the dashboard’s “Run now” button. It draws from the same monthly allowance, not an unlimited one.
  • Update a brand’s profile: name, domain, tracking status, locale, category, description, tags or contact email.
  • Set a brand’s alert channels and minimum severity.
  • Run a site audit on your own domain or any other URL, and ask for data-driven recommendations.
  • Generate the same visibility report you can download from the app.

What it can never do

  • Touch billing. No plan change, no upgrade, no cancellation, no payment detail.
  • Delete a brand or your account. The remove-prompt tool only removes a prompt, and even that needs explicit confirmation.
  • See or change your password, or your account email.
  • Add, remove or manage team seats. Seats are an Enterprise concept and are not exposed through MCP at all.
  • Create a brand. A brand has to exist first, made through the app’s own onboarding; a fresh account with no brands yet shows up to the agent as exactly that, an account with no brands.

If an AI app’s own permission screen (Claude’s, ChatGPT’s) lists something broader than this when you connect it, that screen describes what the AI app itself is capable of asking for in general, not what AskAiRank’s server will actually act on. The server enforces the list above regardless of what the app requested.

Limits that apply through the agent too

  • Reading data needs an active trial or a paid plan. On an expired free trial the connection still works, and the account tool still answers, but the rest return a message instead of real numbers until the account upgrades or starts a new trial.
  • Manual checks share your plan’s pool. The agent’s check-this-prompt-now tool draws from the same monthly allowance as “Run now” in the dashboard, counted together, not twice as much.
  • Checks are also capped per hour, separately from the monthly pool, to keep a chatty agent from running up a bill in a few minutes. Wait for the time the error message gives, or ask again later.

The 20 tools, grouped

Read (9): get_account, list_brands, get_visibility_summary, list_mentions, list_competitors, compare_with_competitor, list_prompts, list_citation_sources, get_notification_settings.

Manage prompts (5): add_prompt, update_prompt, pause_prompt, resume_prompt, remove_prompt (needs confirm: true).

Manage brand (2): update_brand, update_notification_settings.

Checks and reports (4): run_visibility_check, run_site_audit, get_recommendations, generate_report.

The full page in the app, under MCP & API, lists every tool with its exact parameters and a sample question to ask, which is worth a look once before relying on an agent for anything specific.
