Connect AskAiRank to Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor (MCP)

Connect AskAiRank to any MCP-capable AI agent and ask about your brand's visibility in plain conversation: the server URL, OAuth sign-in, and the exact steps for Claude, Claude Code, ChatGPT and Cursor.

Updated:

AskAiRank runs a remote MCP (Model Context Protocol) server. Connect it to an AI app you already use and ask about your visibility the same way you would ask a colleague, instead of opening the dashboard.

The server

The server URL is https://mcp.askairank.com/mcp. Every client below asks for it once, during setup.

Sign-in is OAuth, with your AskAiRank account email and password, or Google. You never paste a password or an API key into the AI app itself, and there is no separate API key to manage. This is also the only programmatic way into AskAiRank: there is no personal API key and no separate REST API, so a script or an agent framework that speaks MCP goes through the same server and the same sign-in.

Connecting Claude (web or desktop)

  1. Open Settings, then Connectors, and choose Add custom connector. This works on every Claude plan, including the free one.
  2. Name it AskAiRank and paste the server URL.
  3. Click Connect, sign in to AskAiRank, read what Claude will be able to do, and click Allow.
  4. In a chat, turn AskAiRank on in the tools menu and ask a question.

Connecting Claude Code

The plugin installs the server along with a few ready-made prompts, in two commands. Run this one first:

/plugin marketplace add supafast-tech/askairank-claude-plugin

Once it reports the marketplace was added, run the second:

/plugin install askairank@askairank-claude-plugin

Then run /mcp, pick askairank from the list, and choose Authenticate.

Without the plugin, add the server directly from the terminal:

claude mcp add --transport http askairank https://mcp.askairank.com/mcp

Connecting ChatGPT

  1. Open Settings, then Apps. Until AskAiRank’s own listing is live in the app directory, turn on Developer mode under Apps, Advanced settings.
  2. Choose Create app and paste the server URL.
  3. Click Connect, sign in to AskAiRank, read what ChatGPT will be able to do, and click Allow.

Connecting Cursor, VS Code and other MCP clients

Most MCP clients read a small JSON config with the server’s URL, and open a browser for sign-in the first time they call it. The exact file and field names differ by client, so check your client’s own docs for where this goes. A typical entry looks like:

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "askairank": {
      "url": "https://mcp.askairank.com/mcp"
    }
  }
}

Disconnecting

Disconnect at any time from Account → Connected apps, or by removing AskAiRank in the AI app’s own settings. Either side revokes access immediately. Reconnecting starts a fresh session; nothing from the old one carries over.

If something goes wrong

  • “This connection link is not valid.” The sign-in request from your AI app was missing something it needed, or it expired. Go back to the AI app and start the connection again from the beginning.
  • “This app runs on your own computer.” Normal for clients like Claude Code or Cursor, which finish sign-in on localhost instead of a web address. Allow it only when you started that connection yourself.
  • The agent connects but every tool says tracking is not available. Reading your data needs an active trial or a paid plan. On an expired trial the connection still works, but most tools answer with a message instead of real numbers until the account upgrades.

For what the agent is actually allowed to see and change once it is connected, see What the AI agent can do.
