Domains and verification
Why AskAiRank asks you to prove you own a domain, the two ways to verify it, what verification unlocks, and what to do if it fails.
Updated:
Verification proves you control the domain you are tracking. It exists because brand data is public-facing: without it, anyone could claim a competitorβs domain and edit its profile.
What verification unlocks
- Editing brand details and the brand profile
- Alerts about that brand
- Ownership if someone else registered the domain first
If a domain is already registered by another account, you will see a banner offering to verify ownership. Completing verification transfers the brand to you.
Two ways to verify
DNS TXT record. Add the TXT record we show you to the domainβs DNS, then press Verify DNS record. This is the more robust option: it survives site redesigns and does not depend on your homepage HTML. DNS changes can take a few minutes to propagate, so if the first check fails, wait and try again.
Meta tag. Paste the tag we show you into the <head> of your homepage, then press Verify meta tag. Faster if you can edit the site yourself. Do not remove the tag afterwards.
There is also verification by an admin, used only when our team resolves a case manually.
Google Search Console counts too: connecting it during onboarding confirms your domain automatically, without DNS or a meta tag. See Google Search Console.
The Domains page
The Domains page lists every domain on the brand with its status: Verified, Not verified, or Claimed by another account, and how it was verified. Add secondary domains here if your product lives on more than one, for example a marketing site and an app subdomain.
The primary domain is the one used for Site Scan, own-domain citations and blog import, so make sure it is the one you actually publish content on.
