Competitors
How AskAiRank finds the brands you compete with in AI answers, how the leaderboard is ranked, and what the head to head view tells you.
Updated:
Competitors are not a list you maintain by hand. They are whatever brands the AI engines actually name in the same answers as you, which is often not the list you would have written yourself.
Where the list comes from
Every AI answer we collect is parsed for brand names. Any brand that appears is recorded against that run, with its position in the answer. Do that a few thousand times and you get an honest picture of who occupies your category in AI answers.
You also pick a few known competitors during onboarding. Those are seeded into the same table, so they show up even in periods where the engines did not mention them.
The leaderboard
The table ranks every brand, yours included, by visibility: the share of runs where the brand was named in the top 3, out of that brandβs total runs.
Your own brand is ranked by the same rule as everyone else. If three competitors have higher visibility, you are fourth. Nothing pins you to the top.
Columns:
| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Visibility | Share of runs with a top-3 mention |
| Share of Voice | This brandβs mentions against all brand mentions |
| Mentions | Raw count in the period |
| Avg Position | Average place in the answer, lower is better |
| Sentiment | How positively the engines describe them |
| Trend | Sparkline of visibility over the selected period |
| Platforms | Which engines named this brand |
Free and Starter plans see the top competitors; Pro and Team see the full list.
Head to head
Click any competitor to open their page. You get:
- Visibility over time, you against them, on one chart
- a battle card comparing your key metrics side by side
- per-engine breakdown, so you can see the specific platform where they beat you
- growth opportunities: prompts where they appear and you do not, which is the most actionable list in the product
- how AI describes them, in the enginesβ own words
- citation sources feeding their mentions, and the prompts that surface them
Using it
The useful loop is short. Open the competitor above you, open their growth opportunities, and read two or three of the actual answers. You will usually find one of three things: they have a page targeting that question and you do not, they are cited by a source that has never heard of you, or the engine simply has stale information about your product. Each has a different fix, and the answer text tells you which one you are looking at.
